After today’s deadly operation in Jerusalem, in which six Israeli citizens were killed, the Israeli army is conducting extensive operations including searching, detaining and discovering weapons in the villages where the perpetrators of the terrorist incident were removed. Checkpoints are also being set up at the exits of Ramallah and cars are being inspected. The Israeli military has said the operation may inspire similar attacks and is considering moving troops from Gaza to the West Bank.
Several suspects were arrested at the same time, including the father of one of the attackers who told the interrogation that he was “proud” of his son.
As every year on holidays, warnings increase. Now, after this operation, the army is investigating the transfer of troops from Gaza to the West Bank. They also plan to expand activity in refugee camps and other areas. Among the measures being considered are the increase in checkpoints, the destruction of suspects ‘ homes and the continued pressure on resistance organizations in the region.
Eyal Zamir, the chief of the General Staff of the Israeli army, visited the observation point near the village where one of the attackers left today and held an evaluation meeting with the commanders. He said: “I ordered the complete closure of the area from which the attackers came. We will pursue terror nests everywhere and destroy its infrastructure and organizers.»
