Despite the withdrawal of the Iranian regime’s ambassador from Australia, a senior minister in Canberra stated that the Iranian embassy in the capital has not been left vacant, as Australia still needs to maintain contact with Tehran.
Murray Watt, an Australian Cabinet Minister, cited concerns for the safety of Australian diplomats in Tehran as the reason for their withdrawal, adding: “As an employer, we could not guarantee that our staff in Tehran would be safe.”
